A simple piece of paper stock with writing on it introduces you to the world. Without it you are practically no one. Some companies give them to all their employees and others only certain executives get to see their names and titles in print.
I attended a meeting on the site of a very prominent corporation. I was very impressed with their presentations and their corporate-casual environment. Everyone was very professional from the lowest maintenance person to the President himself. Everyone offered me his or her card. Those staff members I interacted with in their offices or at their desks, had card holders prominently displayed for the taking. I mused aloud why a Receptionist would need to have her own card and I was corrected that being a representative of this company meant that the company took personal responsibility for each one of their employees. That meant that everyone was well trained to represent and was expected to respond to inquiries about the organization.
It meant that as a visitor to their campus, I, as someone unfamiliar with my surroundings could stop anyone to inquire about anything. The staff was just THAT available to us. Not knowing it, I stopped and interrupted the CFO on his way to an important meeting. He didn’t direct me to someone else for help; he took the time to answer my simple question and directed me to where I had to go. And before he continued on his way, he handed me his card and asked me to let him know how things turned out.
I understood that this was their everyday business protocol. Some might say that this article is about customer care, but I was not a customer, I was a client who was pursuing their business. The man simply did not know who I was and didn’t try to find out. He merely took a few moments out of his busy schedule to help me and then he was on his way.
I was impressed. I received more careful service from these individuals than I would have received from someone paid to help me at either a retail or restaurant establishment.
I have been one of those individuals who used business cards to promote CWW's services. As a matter of fact, I acquired a customer who received one of my cards with writing on the back, who was curious to know what kind of individual would put writing on the back of a busines card?
A business cards carries the personality of its company all summed up on its white face. When companies cut costs, business cards are the first costs to go?
It’s all too much to think of, because customer care and good marketing goes right out the door with cost cutting.
