Some days, I have to remind myself to look for opportunities to perform random acts of kindness that can transform into random act of career-wise ways. The behavior could be as simple as holding the door for the next person, because someone was patient enough to hold the door for me, even as they waited for me to get to it.
One day someone asked me for directions and I took a moment to tell her how to get to there. She smiled and thanked me. I wondered if she had an interview and as I watch her walk towards her destination. I hoped that my single act of kindness gave her an extra boost of confidence that everything was going to go well for her that day.
I said a small prayer of thanks that I could make a simple difference at the start of someone’s day and silently wished that my day would also go well. I held my head high and strengthened my stride. I felt an Aaah! in my spirit. I filed this one away in my random acts memory for when I needed a boost. I would remember that I had the ability to make people feel good with a simple act of kindness.
When was the last time you had a conversation with a stranger that was the most interesting conversation you'd had in a long time. Did it ever occur to you that this person could be your next mentor, or might lead me to your next career opportunity? Even if you didn’t, would it have been such a bad thing to think it? How would you have pursued it? Probably you talked about nothing in particular with this person and the moment passed so quickly, that acquiring anything memorable from the conversation was probably an afterthought.
Obviously, we don’t get enough of those chances to make a difference in someone’s life. But I have learned to trust that the universe will bring us those incidences even in the way of a stranger asking for directions and that we can make that person feel good about themselves, by how helpful we have been.
Wishing you CWW Career-Wise Ways...!
