Did you ever have one of those days where you were able to put your hands on everything you looked for?
I like to think I invented the phrase “fingertip-accessibility”. It is a term I use to describe my work style. The question becomes, “How accessible should your work space be”? All I can say is that I am thankful for computer, iPhones, voice mail, e-mail, PDAs and wireless technology.
With the advent of voice recognition software, I imagine walking into my office and having all my equipment (lights, phone, fax, computer, window shades, coffee makers, etc.) programmed to recognize, authenticate and greet me, the moment I cross the threshhold. Phone messages won’t be piled up in some stack and faxes won’t be dumped into a tray waiting to be manually sorted according to crisis and priority.
Everything will be handled by digital voice prompt and e-mail, faxes, phone calls, banking, and anything else that would require a personal touch, will be handled personally with a mere action-oriented voice-recognizeable directive.
And while everyone else is wading through piles of papers, returning long lists of calls and digging their way out of e-mail mountains, I will have logged in and out for the day and hung up a sign saying, “Gone Shopping – Back tomorrow. Maybe”!
