Are You Sure?
Have you ever gotten so caught up trying to get everything done and on time that you actually have moments when you stop and wonder if you are doing anything right?
It doesn't help when someone comes along and add fuel to the esteem-less fire building in you psyche, by asking, "what you're doing"? And as you look at them from behind your wall of self protection wishing they'd go back to the planet they come from, do you wonder where went all the lessons about saving time, being assertive or thinking before speaking, while you think of a polite yet firm response to send the interloper on his or her way?
It's those moments of uncertainty that starts your Reality Check, long before it ever becomes a firm statement in your mind. So where do you start? How do you start? Sometimes you might not even remember if you know anything at all. You may even try to reverse the anguish by asking yourself, "What do I know that I know?" It could be similar to when you first learned the alphabet. If you couldn't remember what came after C, it was hard to keep going if you didn't start over at the beginning. If you made it only to the middle you got frustrated. When you finally succeeded at saying the whole alphabet without stopping or starting over, you felt really good. And then, you repeated it over and over again until it became sing-song in your head and heart – so much so that you did it without thinking sometimes. You even caught yourself saying it when you were not thinking about it. You even may have found yourself trying to stop saying it. Eventually, you wanted it out of your head, but before you could push it too far away, you had to say it one more time from start to end, without stumbling to make sure you knew it by heart.
Sometimes starting over is good for assessing where you are and what it took to get there. And as the next juncture looms in front of you, it should become what you look forward to. When you are teetering on the edge between going forward or going back is when you decide to jump off and start anew.
But first, are you sure?
