Career-Wise Ways ... Not Just A Job-But A Career ®

Greetings and Welcome Harvest!

Starting A New Chapter in Life

Fall has arrived bringing the end of summer, cooler temperatures and needed change.  If you're like me, your umbrella became a fashion accessory this year and you couldn't wait for the almost-summer to end.

Isn't it interesting how the weather can set the tone for your attitude? The same happens when you're stuck in limbo wondering what next or why now with your job?  Maybe you're feeling anxious because of what’s happening to others?  Maybe you're wondering how to leverage your experience to make your own career work better - You may want to check out our latest Tip Sheet, "Rule your Career".

Perhaps you've succeeded in making a career change and now you're trying to figure out if THEY think it's working - You might even be looking wistfully back at the job you left.

Don't worry, we want to help jump-start your career and get it off cruise-control by inviting you to check out the latest Getting Started article called Give Stretch to Your Career, along with new insights to help you gain the competive advantage.

Also, while you’re browsing the CWW site, take a moment and complete the poll by telling us what description fits you. We're not political and we don't have a hidden agenda. We just want to know if your basic reality has changed recently.

  1. How are you handling the bombardment of new information – Listen carefully, take notes. No one likes to repeat the same information over and over to someone who hasn’t listened.

  2. Respect the work that needs to get done now – Keep yourself in the information loop, so you know WHAT the priorities are and WHEN they change.

  3. Don’t insult or play down the work of a long-missed predecessor – Observe and listen for how well your predecessor performed his or her job. If you come across mistakes they’ve made, don’t expose or accept responsibility for them.

  4. Learn THEIR culture – Coming into a new job is always scary. Try to learn how THEY work, how THEY socialize and how THEY share information.

  5. Be a quick start …not an upstart – You may not be the star here, so it will be important for you to learn to accept compliments and criticisms from this new group.

  6. You will be recognized – You may have to wait your turn, but your star will shine soon enough.  Meanwhile do your best work and apply your best habits and strengths.
